Thunderbirds Get Gritty, 2-1 Win
|
The Minneapolis Vikings wasted an impressive 7-inning effort from starter Hector Moreno, falling, 2-1, to the Phoenix Thunderbirds in 10 innings at Minneapolis Grounds. Phoenix reliever Miles Halpenny picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Brian Burda absorbed the loss. Picking up the save was Jimmy Hsia, his 11th.
Phoenix used a timely hit from Nick Majors to get the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Thunderbirds ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a difference-maker.
"Well, it's always frustrating to lose," said Minneapolis manager Ace Cooan.
The third-place Thunderbirds go to 34-36.
