Behind a fine performance from Willie Penaloza, the Alaska Kodiaks knocked off the San Francisco Friars, 9-1. Penaloza was 2-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Kodiaks. Pablo Alvarez got credit for the win, improving to 4-4. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 5.1 innings. The Kodiaks are now 39-37.

With Alaska leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Penaloza hit a fastball from Lyalya Markosiants for a 2-run double. It was his 3rd double of the season and put the Kodiaks ahead, 4-1.

Kodiaks manager Alex King had nothing but praise for his players after an impressive win, calling the result one of the team's best performances of the season. "Everything just came together on our end," he said. "I didn't need to do too much."
