Markosiants goes 0-5 to Power Friars Offense
The San Francisco Friars beat the Chicago Phantoms, 6-3, at Foster Field. San Francisco designated hitter Lyalya Markosiants had an outstanding performance. He threw 8.1 innings of shutout ball. The second-place Friars now have a win-loss record of 39-36.

The Phantoms had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Friars going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Bryce Gekas came to the plate. Gekas hit a bases-clearing double on a first pitch sinker from Chicago hurler Taisei Yamamoto. It was Gekas's 19th double of the year.

In comments to the San Francisco Citizen, Gekas admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
