Thunderbirds Lay Egg, Lose 12-0 to Minneapolis
|
The Minneapolis Vikings cruised to a win over the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 12-0, at Minneapolis Grounds. Gilberto Cerda led the way, going 1-for-2 for Minneapolis. Jose Madrid, who went 5.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with no runs on 4 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 9-2. The triumph puts Minneapolis at 53-27 for the season.
Minneapolis got a big at-bat from Pickering, England native Marvin Jackson, who in the bottom of the eighth hit a bases-clearing double. It was his 19th double of the season and put the Vikings ahead, 12-0.
Phoenix manager Joe Busch called the blowout loss "ugly."
