Thunderbirds Lose 5-3 Decision to Minneapolis
|
The Minneapolis Vikings topped the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 5-3, in Western Conference action at Minneapolis Grounds. The standout performance belonged to Minneapolis pitcher and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native Juan Pinon. Minneapolis reliever Lesley Deakin was the winner. His record is now 2-2. The losing pitcher was Zhi-jan Law. With the win, Minneapolis upped its record to 54-27.
Minneapolis took a 4-3 lead on Sam Cone's 19th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Cone hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Phoenix pitcher Zhi-jan Law visibly frustrated.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Cone.
