The Los Angeles Stars picked up a win at Stars Ballpark, taking down the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 5-4. Starting pitcher Roberto Davila was a big reason why. Chase Kessler earned his 3rd save, after closing out the game. With the win, Los Angeles goes to 46-37, while the Thunderbirds fall to 41-42.

Had Whip Lund not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Lund hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Stars.

"That's what good pitchers do," said Los Angeles manager Pat Kaers. "They find a way."
