The San Francisco Friars topped the Alaska Kodiaks, 6-2, in Western Conference action at Staples Field. The standout performance belonged to San Francisco pitcher and Redland, Maryland, native Cruz Ponce. Ponce picked up the win for San Francisco, going 6 innings. He gave up no runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 6-6. The second-place Friars hiked their record to 41-42.
Darren Gill could have done more damage. In the top of the ninth, with Alaska trailing 6-1, Alaska had the bases loaded. That's when Gill hit a sacrifice fly. But it was not enough. San Francisco would go on to win the game.
