Phantoms Popped by Rangers, 8-4
The Buffalo Rangers beat the Chicago Phantoms by a score of 8-4. Buffalo second baseman Willy Amavizca deserved the lion's share of the credit. Amavizca was 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 doubles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Rangers. Alcides Zaldivar picked up the win, improving his season record to 5-4. He struck out 2 in 6.1 innings. Picking up his 2nd save was 32-year old right-handed pitcher Frank Hubert.

With Buffalo leading 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Amavizca hit a fastball from Jake Orthman for a 2-run double. It was his 12th double of the season and put the Rangers ahead, 3-0.

"It was a good night for them and a bad night for us," said Chicago manager Sam J.

The win puts Buffalo at 44-40 this season.
