Vikings Handle Denver, Snag 6-5 Win
|
The Minneapolis Vikings overcame a good performance by Denver catcher Kanehisa Nishimoto to knock off Denver, 6-5, at Mountain Dew Park. Nishimoto went 1-2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Brian Burda, now 3-7, was credited with the win in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 2. Earning his 22nd save of the year was Phil Payne.
The Vikings got a big at-bat from center fielder Sergio Justiniano. For the game, Justiniano was 2-4 with 2 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 20th double of the season gave Minneapolis a 6-5 lead.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Justiniano.
Minneapolis now has a record of 44-42 with the win.
