Phoenix Beaten, 9-6, by San Diego
|
San Diego and Phoenix duked it out and the Destroyers came out victorious.
The San Diego Destroyers stopped the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 9-6, at Seaward Stadium. The Destroyers got a big game from Michael Keding, who was 4-5 with 4 singles, while adding 3 RBI. The win went to Ronny Liebermeister in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Francisco Gonzales took the loss. Kurt Bozek earned his 6th save in 9 chances.
Edgar Malhado went 1 for 3. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for San Diego. The 28-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Francisco Gonzales. It was his 45th RBI of the season.
"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said San Diego manager Steve Alstadt.
San Diego goes to 37-50, Phoenix to 46-40.
