Dragons Turn Back Minneapolis, 4-2
|
The Portland Dragons handed the Minneapolis Vikings a 4-2 defeat at Portland Park. First Baseman Xadreque Esperana starred for Portland. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2. Oscar Mercado got the win, improving to 5-6. He held the Vikings to 2 runs on 3 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 4. Getting the save was Danny Monroy, his 3rd.
Portland took a 4-2 lead on Clive Pritchard's 5th home run of the season. The solo home run, which Pritchard hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Minneapolis pitcher Jordan Zuniga visibly frustrated.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Portland manager Greg Carpenter.
With the win, the Dragons sit at 53-45.
