Avispas Turn Back Senators, 6-4
|
Though he had a terrific game, Ruven Luevano could not prevent his team, the Washington Senators, from absorbing a loss. Santiago won the game, 6-4. Luevano was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Volk Miller, who went 6.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 8 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 5-9. Buddy Verveer recorded the save for Santiago, his 9th of the season.
Santiago took a 6-2 lead on Heyg Schmidt's 13th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Schmidt hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Washington pitcher Jeff Amendola visibly frustrated.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Schmidt said.
The Senators, at 38-63, have lost 4 in a row.
