Vikings Get One-Run Win at San Diego
|
The Minneapolis Vikings weathered a fine game by San Diego right fielder Jose Gonzales to upend the Destroyers, 3-2, at Seaward Stadium. Gonzales went 4-5 with a triple and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs. Alex Mijangos earned the win, while 25-year old right-handed pitcher Gary Banks took the loss for San Diego. The second-place Vikings lifted their record to 52-49.
Minneapolis won the game in part because of Osbiel Borrero. The designated hitter ripped a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Vikings ahead, 3-2. For the game, Borrero had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Minneapolis skipper Ace Cooan. "I can't complain."
