Kansas City Downs Denver, 8-5
|
Denver left fielder Wei Huang pounded Kansas City Athletics pitchers at Ballpark of Missouri, but it was not enough to keep the Glaciers from falling, 8-5. Huang was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. The save was credited to Keishi Okamoto, his 3rd. Despite the win, the Athletics have a lousy 30-72 record.
Harold Pond had a big run-scoring double for the Athletics in the bottom of the first inning. With Kansas City leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Huggy Bruce, who finished 2nd in the EC in wins with 16 in 2071, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 20th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Athletics ahead, 2-0.
"Nice win for us," said Pond. "Now we'll go after the next one."
