5-3 Dragons Win over Arrows Evens Season Record
|
The 5-3 Portland win over Seattle was due largely to Tadashi Shimizu. The Dragons third baseman went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The winning pitcher was Bertrand Ivory. He tossed 86 pitches over 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. The win gives Portland a record of 14-14.
Hideji Yamanaka had a big 3-run home run for the Dragons in the bottom of the third inning. With Portland leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Honey Geier, who finished 3rd in the WC in ERA with 2.89 in 2070, and punished it. The result was his 8th home run of the season, which put the Dragons on top, 4-0.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Portland manager Greg Carpenter.
