The Kansas City Athletics defeated the Santiago Avispas, 7-5, in part because of right fielder Ramiro Rexach. Rexach went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. Jerry Gomez had a big bases-clearing double for the Athletics in the top of the sixth inning. With Kansas City leading 4-2 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Kazushige Ogino and swatted a double to center. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Athletics ahead, 7-2.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Rexach. "You've got to get results."
