Athletics Come Up Short at Santiago, 7-6
Kansas City right fielder Ramiro Rexach had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Rexach was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3, even as Santiago beat the Athletics, 7-6. Jose Nereida, the winner, is now 2-1. He struck out 6 and walked 4 over 5.2 innings, while allowing 4 runs on 4 hits. Steve Zuehlke was credited with the save for Santiago, his 1st of the season.

Homer Hanes had a key at-bat with one out in the bottom of the fifth for Santiago. With the bases loaded and the Avispas leading 2-1, he hit a sacrifice fly.

"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Hanes.

The 4th-place Avispas sport a record of 16-19.
