Friars Saddle Thunderbirds with 5-0 Loss
|
San Francisco and Phoenix got after it at Staples Field.
San Francisco Friars starter Brad Rubel was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 5-0. The winning pitcher was Rubel, now 8-11. He tossed 5.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 4. Chris Isaacks collected his 1st save.
Antonio Samora was a prime factor in the win for the Friars. In the bottom of the fifth with no one out, the 30-year old catcher hit a run-scoring single. He was 1 for 3, while adding 2 RBI.
"Scoring runs is scoring runs," said San Francisco skipper Jeremy Cooan. "It's important to have different ways to do it."
The Friars are now 64-52, while the Thunderbirds fall to 59-55.
