The Vancouver Wolves topped the Tucson Toros by the score of 8-5, with the biggest share of the credit going to designated hitter Joe Echols. Echols went 3-4 with 2 doubles. He scored 2 runs for the Wolves on the day. Matt Steffes came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. His record now stands at 4-4. Bill Lohry closed it out for his 15th save.

The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Reinier Martinez came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Tucson pitcher Don Young, he hit a 2-2 curveball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Vancouver on top, 7-5.

"I like winning," Martinez told the Vancouver Observer. "I may joke around, but when it comes down to it, winning is the most important thing."

The loss makes Tucson 54-63.
