Phoenix Triumphs with Late Surge
|
The Phoenix Thunderbirds took on the St. Louis Gaedels at Veeck Park.
The Phoenix Thunderbirds racked up a win at Veeck Park, bumping off the St. Louis Gaedels, 5-2. Jay Barrientos, who started for Phoenix, pitched effectively for his team. Zhi-jan Law earned the save for Phoenix, his 9th of the year.
Mike Ramirez went 1 for 3 for Phoenix. The 26-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Ben Ford. It was his 49th RBI of the season.
"Jay had a little bit of everything going," said Thunderbirds manager Joe Busch. "Really sharp performance."
The second-place Thunderbirds bumped their record to 62-58.
