Toros Pick Up 3-1 Win Over Washington
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Tucson Toros and the Washington Senators, pitcher B.J. Terriquez was the difference between victory and defeat. The Tucson right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-1 Toros win. Ruben Hernandez recorded his 5th save for Tucson. The first-place Toros, at 76-49, now lead their division by 13½ games.
Had Geri Rengifo not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Rengifo hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Toros.
"Makes our job easier," said Rengifo, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
