In a low-scoring affair between the Houston Aquas and the Phoenix Thunderbirds, pitcher Slider Brooks was the difference between victory and defeat. The Houston left-hander earned kudos in the 2-0 Aquas win. Brooks, now 12-5, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Danny Mathews recorded the save for Houston, his 27th of the season.
Houston used the hitting of Craig Lightsey to pick up the win. The third baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Aquas on top, 2-0. For the game, Lightsey had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Not too many highlights on our side," said losing manager Joe Busch.
Houston occupies second place in the Western Conference Michael Fridy Division at 72-56.
