Chicago 80-48 After 8-5 Victory
|
Thanks in large part to left fielder Miklas Shervill, the Chicago Phantoms beat the Tucson Toros, 8-5. Shervill went 3-5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Jake Orthman got credit for the win, improving to 12-8. He allowed 4 runs on 10 hits in 6 innings. Wessel Paans closed it out for his 6th save.
Tom Schwartzmiller had a big 2-run home run for the Phantoms in the top of the first inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a forkball from Taxi Sabala, who finished 4th in the WC in innings pitched with 210.2 in 2076, and punished it. The result was his 12th home run of the season, which put the Phantoms on top, 3-0.
"We're trying to go out there and win games," Shervill told the Chicago Daily, "and we played pretty well tonight."
With the win over Tucson, the Phantoms improved to 80-48.
