The Portland Dragons defeated the San Francisco Friars, 1-0, in Western Conference action at Staples Field. Portland pitcher Stuart Stephenson had a standout performance. In 7.1 innings, Stephenson surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 0. He allowed no runs. Willie Bravo closed the game out for Portland, earning his 21st save.
Portland third baseman Ray Farr contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the second. With two down, he hit a slider into right-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 119th hit of the season and put the Dragons ahead, 1-0.
"We believe in ourselves and we're willing to work hard. It's a good combination," Farr told the Portland News.
With the win, the Dragons have a record of 80-49.
