Destroyers Victorious at Vancouver, 9-7
|
The San Diego Destroyers stopped the Vancouver Wolves, 9-7, behind an impressive performance from Jordan Tarango. The 26-year old second baseman made life miserable for Vancouver pitching. He was 2-3 with 2 doubles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Julio Olivo closed the door for San Diego, picking up his 14th save of the year. With the win, the Destroyers have a record of 71-60.
Tom Sarmiento drove in one run for San Diego. The 2079 Rookie of the Year Award winner had a key at-bat in the top of the fifth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Raul Garibaldi. It was his 80th RBI of the season.
"You can't hate how you win if you win," said San Diego skipper Steve Alstadt.
