Shimada Rips 2 Homers in 3-2 Win
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Cincinnati Grounds. But 28-year old first baseman Tsuneteru Shimada produced just enough offense to carry the Gaedels past the Cincinnati Twins, 3-2. Shimada belted 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The winner was Andres Anguiano, who threw 93 pitches over 6 innings. The left-hander was charged with 1 run on 4 hits. Mike Gonzales notched his 3rd save in 7 chances.
With St. Louis trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Shimada hit a sinker from Tony Hernandez for a 2-run home run. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Gaedels ahead, 2-1.
"We were in it," said Cincinnati manager Ryan Stoops. "We just didn't score enough runs."
The win makes St. Louis 56-79.
