Thunderbirds Victorious at Minneapolis, 7-3
|
The Phoenix Thunderbirds topped the Minneapolis Vikings, 7-3, at Minneapolis Grounds. Phoenix left fielder Billy Morf was a spark plug for the offense. He was 2-4 with a triple and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Phoenix reliever Forbes Kopecky was the winner. His record is now 3-5. Joseph Stark took the loss. Phoenix has 3 straight wins, Minneapolis 3 straight losses.
Morf had a game-changing triple in the top of the seventh. On a 1-1 curveball from Katsuo Nozawa, he banged a bases-clearing triple to right-center, giving the Thunderbirds a 5-2 lead. It was the 6th triple of the year for Morf.
"I thought we competed really well," said Thunderbirds manager Joe Busch. "I thought the energy was really good."
