Athletics Cut Down Destroyers, 6-0
|
Charlie Beck never let the Destroyers get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Athletics to a win, 6-0. Beck went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. His record improves to 3-6. After today's action, Kansas City sits at 52-85; San Diego slips to 50-88.
The result might have been different, had it not been for Allen Blagburn, the Kansas City designated hitter. Blagburn had a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Athletics ahead, 4-0. For the game, Blagburn had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Beck. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
