The Phoenix Thunderbirds and Los Angeles Stars provided some drama for the home crowd.

Los Angeles Stars starter Mike Merdinger turned in a top-notch performance against the Phoenix Thunderbirds at Legednary Park. The result was a win for the Stars, 3-2. Merdinger, now 10-4, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Ricky Minjarez got credit for the save for Los Angeles. It was his 2nd of the year.

Los Angeles used a timely hit from Ramão Bizarro to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Stars ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.

"I executed the game plan," said Merdinger.

The third-place Stars lifted their record to 75-66.
