Multi-HR Day for Sosa as Athletics Overpower Toros, 5-3
|
A 5-RBI performance from left fielder Henry Sosa, who led the WC in runs with 124 last year, led the Kansas City Athletics to a win over the Tucson Toros, 5-3. Gerald Tanton got the win, improving to 12-8. He held the Toros to 1 run on 5 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 1. The 79-62 Athletics lead the Western Conference Duviel Zaldivar Division by one game.
Kansas City grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Sosa hit a 3-run home run off Miguel Moquete. His 26th home run of the season put the Athletics out in front, 4-1.
Kansas City manager Joe Monagle commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
