The Los Angeles Stars rode a solid performance from 30-year-old starting pitcher Roberto Davila to a win, beating the Tucson Toros, 5-2, at Stars Ballpark. Davila, now 11-10, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. The triumph puts Los Angeles at 76-67 for the season.
Bonaventure Moser, who is tied for 4th in the WC in doubles with 46, aided the Los Angeles cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the third baseman was 2 for 5 with 2 singles.
"A confident pitcher is a dangerous thing," said Los Angeles manager Pat Kaers. "That's what Roberto is right now."
