Titans Get One-Run Win at St. Louis
|
The New York Titans eked out a 3-2 win versus the St. Louis Gaedels at Veeck Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Al Garay. He was terrific. Bryant Basile, credited with the win, is now 6-6. He allowed no runs on no hits. New York is now 83-60, St. Louis 77-67.
Steve Czerw drove in one run for New York. With one out and the game tied in the top of the seventh inning, Czerw, who is tied for 10th in the EC in bases on balls with 68, had a clutch at-bat. Facing St. Louis hurler Wilfredo Rivas, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Titans a 3-2 lead.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Garay.
