Juggernauts Beat Thunderbirds, 8-5
|
The Toronto Juggernauts overcame a good performance by Phoenix left fielder Billy Morf to knock off Phoenix, 8-5, at Molson Park. Morf went 2-4 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Bob Achbar picked up the win, improving his season record to 4-4. He struck out 5 in 5.2 innings. Ignacio Noriega got credit for the save for Toronto. It was his 31st of the year.
Hector Gallegos had a big bases-clearing double for the Juggernauts in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Toronto leading 3-2 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from 32-year old right-handed pitcher Rafael Morales and swatted a double to center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Juggernauts ahead, 6-2.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Gallegos told the Toronto Daily News.
Toronto is now 72-76, Phoenix 59-89.
