Senators Top Gaedels, 3-2
|
In a tight tilt between the Washington Senators and the St. Louis Gaedels, Jose Nereida was the deciding factor. The Washington left-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. The win was credited to 25-year old right-handed pitcher Jason Petruska in relief. His record improves to 5-4. Alex Villalobos took the loss. The Senators saw their win-loss record go to 61-87. At the same time, the Gaedels fell to 69-79.
Cosmo Rothman came through with a big-time hit for Washington. The second baseman smacked a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Bottom line," said St. Louis skipper Mak Dolnick, "we didn't play well enough to win."
