The Montreal Harfangs topped the Buffalo Rangers, 5-3, in Eastern Conference action at Bison Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Montreal pitcher and Chula Vista, California, native Mike Merdinger. The winner in relief was Touta Kubo. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Tetsukazu Kaneda picked up the save, his 2nd.
Ken Organ helped out the Montreal cause in the top of the ninth inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the shortstop drew 1 walk in 5 trips to the plate.
"We had a good game plan," Merdinger said, "and we were able to execute it."
With the victory, the Harfangs upped their record to 25-21.
