The Alaska Kodiaks defeated the Kansas City Athletics, 4-3, in 11 innings in Western Conference action at Ballpark of Missouri. Alaska pitcher Mike Blain had a standout performance. The win went to Javy Granillo in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Elijah Yates took the loss. Xiang-ling Khoo got credit for the save for Alaska. It was his 3rd of the year.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Felix Perez? The 31-year old first baseman Perez stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put Alaska up, 4-3. For the game, he was 3 for 5, including 2 doubles and 1 single.
Kansas City manager Joe Monagle said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The second-place Kodiaks improved to 25-21.
