Minneapolis starter Santos Gomez put the Portland offense in a vise grip. The left-hander relied heavily on his changeup in leading the Vikings to a 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Gomez, now 4-3. He tossed 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 7. Zee-loo Kim was credited with the save for Minneapolis, his 14th of the season.

Gentaro Arakawa, who finished 3rd in the WC in slugging percentage with .569 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Arakawa contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Minneapolis up, 2-0.
