Gekas Powers Friars to 16-5 Win
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the San Francisco Friars and Washington Senators.

Bryce Gekas was a vital contributor to the 16-5 San Francisco victory over Washington. The Friars center fielder was 3 for 4 with a triple, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 6. Kelvin Vaquera, who finished 4th in the WC in innings pitched with 206.1 in 2080, earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 3-2.

With San Francisco leading 3-2 in the bottom of the first, Gekas hit a 2-run single off Washington hurler Rajam Masrani. It was the 49th hit of the season for Gekas and put his team ahead, 5-2.

"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said San Francisco manager Erich Weatherholt.

San Francisco is now 24-25.
