Friars Deal Kodiaks 7-5 Setback
|
San Francisco and Alaska duked it out and the Friars came out victorious.
The San Francisco Friars besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Alaska center fielder Jae-ho Choe by beating the Kodiaks, 7-5, at Staples Field. Choe was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Bill Zamora, who threw 103 pitches over 6.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 7 hits.
Ken Draves had a big 3-run home run for the Friars in the bottom of the first inning. With San Francisco leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a changeup from Will Spangenberg, who is tied for 6th in the WC in complete games with 1, and punished it. The result was his 10th home run of the season, which put the Friars on top, 4-0.
"It feels good to get this one," Draves told the San Francisco Citizen.
The third-place Friars sport a record of 73-80.
