Gaedels Lose at Home, 10-6
|
The New York Titans withstood a fine game by St. Louis first baseman Lloyd Brocklebank at Veeck Park, to upend the Gaedels, 10-6. Brocklebank was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. The win belonged to Ray Broekhuizen in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Jose Alirez took the loss for St. Louis. The Titans, at 105-48, have a comfortable 32½-game lead in their division.
Leonelkis Prieto had a big 2-run double for the Titans in the top of the second inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a splitter from 32-year old right-handed pitcher Jose Alirez and swatted a double to center. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Titans ahead, 3-0.
"This was a nice win for us," said Prieto. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
