The Tucson Toros topped the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 10-0, with youngster Etsuji Obata playing a key role. Obata went 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 5 for the Toros in the win. The 4th-place Toros now have a record of 81-75.

Tucson used the hitting of Kenzaburo Nagai to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Toros on top, 2-0. For the game, Nagai had 1 home run and 1 single in 2 at-bats.

"You can't sugarcoat this one," said Phoenix manager Joe Busch. "We got trounced."
