Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Havana Metropolitanos and the Buffalo Rangers. Havana won it, 3-0. Havana starter Bobby Alkire was in command. Alkire, now 12-8, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Roger Calzada sewed up the save, his 1st.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Carlos Garza? The Havana designated hitter had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Metropolitanos on top, 3-0. For the game, Garza had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Buffalo skipper Alex Beckman, "and it cost us."

The last-place Metropolitanos bumped their record to 67-90.
