Athletics Win, Simon drives in 5 runs
|
Eddie Simon, who finished 2nd in the EC in batting average with .337 in 2078, had a 5-RBI night to help the Kansas City Athletics down the Los Angeles Stars, 7-1. Roberto Rueda earned the win to go to 15-5. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. The first-place Athletics sport a record of 91-67.
Simon contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Kansas City in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Simon took a slider from Roberto Davila and stroked the home run to right-center. His 17th home run of the season allowed the Athletics to leap in front, 4-1.
"It was a good team win. Everybody threw something in," Simon told the Kansas City Chronicle.
