The Kansas City Athletics picked up a win at Ballpark of Missouri, downing the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 7-3. On the mound for Kansas City was right-hander Gerald Tanton, who played a pivotal role in the win. At 24-39, the Athletics claim last place in the Western Conference Duviel Zaldivar Division.

Kansas City took a 3-2 lead on Ramiro Rexach's 16th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Rexach hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Phoenix pitcher Zhi-jan Law visibly frustrated.

"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Tanton told the Kansas City Daily News.
