Nungaray Reaches 2500 Thursday, August 15th , 2086 The St. Louis 7-2 loss to Minneapolis wasn't all bad. Something good came out it, at least for Luis Nungaray. As a consolation prize he got the 2500th hit of his career. The veteran Gaedels left fielder went 1-for-5 in the game and added his name to the coveted 2500-hit club. He was given a five-minute ovation by the crowd, which included his wife and family and quite a few former Gaedels teammates. "I could have scripted it better," Nungaray commented to the press after the game, "a win would have made it a lot more enjoyable. But what the hey... hit #2500 ain't so bad." His career stats show that Nungaray has batted .290 and connected for 149 home runs. View Boxscore View Game Log Watch Highlights |
