Hot Bat Cooled, Nakamura Hitless Against Longbows
Friday, May 31st , 2080
Late in the game, all eyes in Jackalopes Ballpark were on Kazuhide Nakamura as he stepped into the batter box. His 20-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Nakamura, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end.
If there was a silver lining for Nakamura, it was that his Ames Lake Jackalopes won the game anyway, stopping the Anchorage Longbows by the score of 4-2.
"Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Nakamura told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 20 straight games. It's something I will always remember."
Nakamura is hitting .291 this year with 8 home runs and 29 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .328, 5 walks and scored 20 times.
