Newport News's Contreras Gets BC Player of the Week Monday, July 29th , 2080 Mario Contreras is respected by most Newport News Herons fans for his no-frills style of play. The 23-year-old second baseman went about his business with vigor last week to grab the Beta Conference Player of the Week honors. He compiled a .526 average (10-for-19) with 2 home runs, 2 RBIs and 8 runs scored. This year, Contreras has hit at a .270 clip with 93 hits, 8 home runs, 28 RBIs and 52 runs scored. |
